Holidays is a time for annual celebrations and inevitably some travel. I love digging into old favorites and opportunities to explore new cuisines. This season’s tastiest culinary treat award belongs to the excellent Italian fare (especially the black truffle Pizza Mushroom) we partook at Forma in Santa Monica. I do admit that I may be suffering with recency bias and also the year is not done yet (3 days to go), so there could be (hopefully 🤤) a change in the rankings?...

There is an advantage when you vacation where you’ve already visited: a marked absence of hurry. The goal of our second day in LA: spend a long sunny day hiking along gorgeous Malibu beaches. For brunch, we decided on a plant only Cafe Gratitude. Their cleverly named menu of dishes like “I am Motivated”, puts one in a good mood! My morning ritual

Sipping a hot cup of espresso in the morning is a heavenly delight few other things in life compare to. Previous to the pandemic, I used to enjoy occasional espresso’s in my office. Being suddenly locked at home for 2-3 years, I had to find an alternative. I balked at installing a large coffee machine. They look unsightly, take up valuable counter space, and require constant upkeep. One day I ran into Aeropress, and marveled at the small form factor and simplicity of the design....

I have a lust-regret relationship with food. I love good food, variety, texture, spices, herbs, smells. Invariably, when I extend myself, I have the following regretful consequences: Weight imbalances that depress my fitness target Stomach upset that invariably happens Adding alcohol makes overeating worse Too much alcohol adds in hangover Changes I did to make this lust turn to love: Measure, measure, measure: I weigh myself daily, and make a note of it in my journal....
