Vacations, much like dessert, always seem to end just when you’re getting to the good part. It’s our third night, and we’re gearing up to say goodbye to the sizzling island beauty, Santorini. Parting is a bittersweet symphony of sorrow and joy—like finding out your favorite seasonal latte is back, but only for a limited time. The memories? Oh, they’re cherished like that one perfect photo where nobody is blinking and everyone is smiling. Santorini, you’ve spoiled us with your perfect climate, vibrant waters, and food so good we considered writing sonnets about it.
Now, as we pack up, there’s a spark of excitement for the mystery that is Paros—a blind date with an island, how exhilarating! What will this new chapter hold?
This morning’s gourmet breakfast came with a twist of mini doughnuts, spanikopitas, and muesli—because why not start the day with a mini feast? We then took a shuttle to the ferry port, where our luggage magically ascended 70 steps without us having to lift a finger (the real vacation MVP).
At the port, we were corralled into a large waiting area in gate 4 until the ferry arrived at 10 AM, bustling with hundreds of people and nearly 20 cars—it was like a flash mob but with luggage and less dancing. Once on board, Dramamine became my new best friend, battling the sea sickness like a knight in shining armor.
Paroikía, A Cultured Pearl Of The Greek Isles
Stepping off the ferry in Paroikía felt like switching from a high-energy pop song to a soothing classical melody. This town is the refined, high-end luxury date you dream about after a fling with the vivacious material girl of Santorini. With its uncrowded streets and a vibe that’s a delightful mix of Granada and Carmel, Paroikía welcomed us warmly.
We checked into Hotel Argonauta, where our room was adorably matchbox-sized, fueling our appetite for adventure. Our first culinary stop was meant to be an authentic Italian pizzeria, but alas, it opened only from 6 PM to midnight. With stomachs growling louder than the ferry’s horn, we pivoted to Burger Street. I indulged in a TexMex chicken patty, while the girls opted for vegetarian delights—every bite was a revelation.
The quest for Vanilla Gelateria turned into a comedic saga, ending abruptly at a closed storefront. Undeterred, our search continued until we discovered the Devine ice cream store. Nidhi and I shared a romantic double scoop of Tiramisu and Dark Chocolate, saving a whopping ¢50—now that’s what I call a financial win!
One aspect that truly captivates me is the stunning white decor that not only dazzles with its brilliance but also its immaculate condition. It remains spotless, a testament to the meticulous care of its people. This pristine environment, fused with the genuine warmth and affection of the Greeks, weaves an inviting atmosphere that pulls you in, making you feel not just welcomed, but truly at home. 🤗
Naoussa, The Posh Cousin of Paroikía
A brief cab ride for €20 whisked us away to Naoussa, a town that felt like Paroikía’s glamorous cousin.
We meandered through charming shopping boutiques, stopped for a spiritual pause at the Faneromeni (Panagía) Church, and snapped playful photos at the Venetian Fortress. Each boutique was more unique than the last, promising treasures and trinkets galore.
Winding down
After a late afternoon siesta that could rival Sleeping Beauty’s nap, we succumbed to the siren call of Ragoussis Bakery (is this the Haldiram of Paros?) right next to our hotel, where the baklava and cookies were so delicious, they should come with a warning label for waistlines. To assuage our culinary guilt, we followed up with Impasto pizza by the slice—because balance is key, right? To truly feel virtuous, we embarked on a two-mile walk along the breathtaking riviera, where the scenery almost made us forget the calorie count.
As the day wound down, our hearts were full, our camera rolls fuller, and our spirits ready to embrace whatever unusual and delightful adventures Paros has in store for us next.
