Tech is changing - more people are using cloud services for computing and storage. Big companies provide the infrastructure and rent it out to customers through network interfaces.
The benefits of using cloud services are that customers have easy access to lots of computing power and storage. The company takes care of software updates, so customers can focus on using their software.
But what if a customer already has their own data center and running workloads is cheaper there than on the big cloud vendors? What if they don’t trust the security of the cloud service provider’s network interfaces and the infrastructure hosting facilities?
Some platform vendors offer new services that let customers keep their data centers and stay secure. Customers allow the vendor to check for updates and apply upgrades remotely, which means the vendor can manage their software from a distance. This way, customers can get the best of both worlds.
Cloud control plane is the technology that lets vendors check for updates. It works differently from the main data system. Control plane technology focuses on security, reliability, and making sure that the main data system remains available, rather than on speed or size of processing.
Using control plane technology is a one-time cost for customers. Vendors can 1/ check their current system and 2/ make the main data system remotely accessible in a secure way. After that, the customer pays a subscription fee, and the vendor takes care of keeping the system up to date and accessible all the time.
